Biography

Alice is living in Palms with roommates and finishing her art history degree when she meets the narrator in 2022. She is interested in horror and monster imagery, and she first invites the narrator into her social world through a midnight screening.

During a later visit to the narrator and Blake’s house, Alice describes the erotic appeal of being chased. She asks the two men to pursue her and pushes them to follow through, beginning the repeated hunt practice that shapes the rest of the story.

Alice later visits the narrator during the day after receiving a lucrative client opportunity with a wealthy sculptor’s daughter. She says she believes Glycon, an ancient snake deity referenced in the story, has brought her good luck. Her belief encourages Blake to plan a more formal ritual.

In a desert cave ritual, Alice performs the animal sacrifice. Afterward, she becomes professionally successful and continues the group’s worship with the narrator and Blake. Her last known situation is as the group’s high priestess, planning a larger ritual involving people in Los Angeles.
