Overview
Annie Verärgert is a teenage vole coat-check worker in Claudia Braun and the Disappearing Sable. Claudia Braun can question her at the masked dance in the exhibition hall at Plumwald Station.
Annie is grumpy, hungry, and unimpressed by the leisure class around the dance. She eats a Schoko-Kat bar while working, complains about rich visitors, and is careless enough to get chocolate on a coat.
Encounter with the sable
Annie saw the missing sable at the coat check. She says he was rude, snatched his coat, left quickly, and abandoned an odd coin and a pair of brown woven gloves.
The gloves are important because they carry an oaken scent. If Claudia obtains them, they can later help Genoveva Geist recognize the sable as someone who visited Club Spectrice.
Giving Claudia the gloves
Annie does not hand the gloves over automatically. She challenges Claudia’s reason for wanting them. If Claudia claims to be the sable’s servant, Annie responds with sympathy and gives her the gloves. Appeals based on Claudia’s investigation or on Gunhild do not convince Annie, and after a failed approach she will not give Claudia anything.
Annie’s scene makes social judgment part of the investigation. Claudia does not merely need to notice that the gloves matter; she has to understand what Annie will believe and why Annie might choose to help.
