Ben suspects Keybowl may have functioned as a Chinese communist honeypot collecting Hollywood kompromat, though this is his interpretation rather than an established public fact within the story. His former connection to Keybowl continues through Siset Pytha, who cannot host him after he returns to San Francisco but offers to sneak him into the Keybowl office to sleep on the floor.
