Overview
Misaki Yamamoto is a supporting character in “Lizard Man.” She is Takumi Hashimoto’s on-again-off-again girlfriend and works as a hand model.
Biography
Misaki is twenty-three during the story and has been involved with Takumi for one year and four months. After the Reptiloptrion accident, she rushes from a modeling job in Shinjuku to Keio University Hospital. She tells the hospital staff she is Takumi’s wife so that she can reach him.
At the hospital, Misaki insists that Takumi will not turn into a lizard and asks him to try to beat the odds for her. Takumi promises to do what he can, and his fear of disappointing Misaki becomes one of the pressures shaping his response to the transformation.
As Takumi’s symptoms worsen, he stops having sex with Misaki because he fears she will find the scaly patches on his body. After Miraitech cancels the cure effort, Takumi invites her to dinner and lies that the work is continuing. Misaki says she will not judge him for symptoms as long as he is trying to cure them.
That night, Misaki tries to remain composed while touching the scaled patches on Takumi’s abdomen. Takumi fears impregnating her with a half-lizard fetus and cannot continue. The scene deepens his sense that their relationship cannot survive his transformation.
Misaki is last heard leaving Takumi a voicemail after his estate sale. She says her Cartier work will keep her from having time for a regular relationship, which Takumi understands as their third breakup.
