Overview
The Suatu are a major people in Calinitia Dreaming, present in Calinitian street life, Celestialist politics, east-side race culture, working-class neighborhoods, and the neighboring state of Nataia. Their physical presentation varies by individual; the extraction evidence emphasizes teal-and-white Celestialist dress, bearded men in the Zone, and pan-Suatu flags during the invasion.
Suatu anger at Boreans, Azalites, and Provisional Calinitia becomes one of the novel’s main political pressures.
Role
Suatu characters range from preachers, shopkeepers, students, and workers to militias and Nataian soldiers. Suatu unrest grows after broadcasts from Nataia and turns violent during the Night of Rage.
The later Nataian invasion of Calinitia brings Suatu power across the border as open war, even as Suatu individuals such as Sergeant Pullis serve in Arborist and Loratian structures.
