Overview
Zygoprep is a biomedical start-rupt in Screwdriver. Melissa works there and describes the company as disrupting the biomedical industry. Its work connects the household story to fertility, pharmaceutical control, smoothies, medical paperwork, and Melissa’s reproductive plans.
Personnel and Work
Melissa complains about Brianne’s inability to process invoices and travel orders and later says Brianne quit because she could not work with Dr. Park. Dr. Park is an offscreen Zygoprep figure whose volatility affects Melissa’s work and whose photograph Emily finds among Melissa’s desk materials.
The company’s business status appears to be advancing during the film. Emily finds IPO documents in Melissa’s desk, and Melissa later says the IPO is done. Melissa also says Tom Landen, a cryotherapy figure whose talks she knows, is being onboarded even though ordinary new staff are not being taken until after venture-capital talks.
Role in the Film
Zygoprep enters Emily’s experience through Melissa’s smoothie, which Melissa says everyone at the company drinks. Emily’s later symptoms, the medical papers in Melissa’s desk, and the hidden prescription bottles in the house connect Zygoprep’s biomedical atmosphere to the control exerted over her.
The company is also responsible for Melissa’s stored eggs. Robert says Melissa’s eggs were stored by the company years earlier so she could focus on building the program and that doctors later said none were viable. Near the end of the film, Melissa says Dr. Park is back from Singapore and wants to meet Emily, then says the children are fine and only need a “healthy little nest.”
