Overview
Arthur Sedki, often called Art, is a Sahidic Egyptian Christian apartment developer in Current Affairs. He is in his fifties when Calvin Munn first meets him, short, brown-complexioned, and mustached, with black-to-gray hair and a formal style that includes suits, scarves, a black peacoat, and an early fedora.
Arthur is Rebecca Sedki’s father and the head of the Sedki family circle that gives Calvin his first major professional and social foothold in New York.
Biography
Arthur first hires Calvin to help interpret Cleo Sedki’s renovation notes, then brings him into Sedki Development Group as the creative figure behind the campaign for Proposal 1. He admires Calvin’s portfolio and turns the campaign work into a high-paying opportunity.
Arthur gives Calvin permission to ask Rebecca out and later helps arrange the couple’s proposal and Sahidic wedding. He also structures family financial arrangements and treats Calvin’s place in the family as both affectionate and conditional.
When Rebecca’s relationship with Imogene Schmidt becomes impossible to hide, Arthur confronts Calvin and frames the matter as a family and moral crisis. After Calvin is injured in the Hudson Yards bombing, Arthur sends support and uses legal and Justice Department contacts to report people praising the bomber online.
