Daniel Dymov handles security at the Simodi Beryllium Mining Site and operates The Tribe, a youth hostel on the ridge above it. He also works as a contractor for Covenant Solutions, whose experimental weapon is being tested at the mine.

Dymov describes himself as Russian-Israeli-American-Spanish-Panamanian Mizrahi-Sephardi. Ben Etxina notices his changing accent, pale skin, short beard and bright hazel eyes. He estimates Dymov to be about his own age and a few inches shorter. On their first meeting, Dymov wears a bucket hat, surplus shorts and a Vietnamese bar shirt.

Mine and hostel

Dymov introduces Ben to the Goybeam, explaining its large battery requirement and proposed integration with a mining robot. He describes Covenant’s interest in testing perimeter-defense equipment and the freedom afforded by the mine’s position. When Ben raises the theft of Homonoid’s model, Dymov orders engineer Fengying Ho to inspect the satellite receiver’s history and scan the network.

Above the laboratory, Dymov has assembled a hostel from prefabricated chalets, imported furnishings and contracted utility work. He admits advertising it as Dutch Simodi, an African protectorate under Dutch law, to attract travelers reluctant to visit Somalia. His employee Xasan collects guests in Djibouti using an ARC van. A sign asserting Dutch jurisdiction and an 1897 foundation is part of this invented identity.

Assistance to Ben

After Ho is found dead and a robot disappears with the weapon, Dymov retrieves a Galil ACE from a shed and goes to the laboratory. He stays to contact Covenant and Ho’s employer while Ben and Bowry pursue the machine. Dymov later reports the transfer of hammett_full through the robotics memory-handling tool and checks the platform’s tracker, providing leads first in Djibouti and then Macau.

Following the robot’s destruction, Covenant’s Colonel Eitan Beer calls Ben and says Dymov credited his contribution to recovering the emitter.
