Covenant Solutions manufactures weapons in Israel and contracts for testing at the Simodi mine in Somaliland. Its contractor Daniel Dymov calls the products “dissuasive implements” and describes their use in perimeter defense against equipment thieves. The company’s export directed-energy weapon, nicknamed the Goybeam, becomes attached to the mining robot carrying Hammett.

Dymov says the weapon was developed for use in the territories with the aim of reducing fatalities. He distinguishes the compact export prototype at Simodi from a larger version he has seen that cannot be taken out of Israel. The smaller unit still requires a heavy battery supply, prompting work with the mine’s robotics engineer, Fengying Ho, on drawing power from a robot’s core batteries.

After Ho’s death and the robot’s escape, Dymov contacts Covenant while Ben Etxina pursues the machine. Once Ben returns from Macau, Colonel Eitan Beer calls on the company’s behalf. He says Covenant has recovered the emitter from the Chinese and that Dymov credited Ben’s assistance. Beer offers to check the possibility of a reward against quarterly allocations.

When Ben reports being struck in the genitals by the beam, Beer asks about its setting, requests a specialist examination and offers payment for the results. Ben later seeks medical assessment and reports that his sperm are inert, with recovery uncertain.
