Overview

The Daniel Inouye attack is a RINIC strike on the U.S. destroyer USS Daniel Inouye in Current Affairs. A RINIC cruiser fires one cannon shot into the ship while Inouye escorts refugee vessels and blocks the rival vessel from cutting in.

The attack is the first major Pacific crisis that Calvin Munn directly witnesses. It gives MILPREP footage and a story that later become central to the Hudson Yards rally.

Aftermath

Calvin and Jasper van der Vliet board the damaged ship after it limps into Pearl Harbor with a charred hole in its side. They film wounded sailors, the rescue effort, and the trapped galley cook Colin Sorner while Petty Officer Emily Winrick explains the attack.

Vincent Becker demands the footage for MILPREP, over Jasper’s objections. The footage becomes a national-media artifact, accelerates the USS Carl Vinson deployment, and supplies the story Becker later wants Calvin to tell after the USNS Mercy attack.
