Overview
Dormouse is the kingdom in which Claudia Braun and the Disappearing Sable takes place. Barenstadt and Plumwald Station are within its public and political world, and the station terminal includes a statue of the Dormouse king.
The game presents Dormouse through rail travel, government records, police authority, royal guards, noble visitors, and public ceremonies. Its politics shape the mystery around Aleksei Oblaka.
Government and security
Dormouse has a monarchy, noble ranks, royal guards, and a national police apparatus. Duchess Haselschwanz is the Duchess of Käse and travels as part of a public tour connected to peace, tradition, and budget reform.
The Dormouse National Police issues the temporary identity code attached to Aleksei’s Shadow Express ticket. Royal guards protect the Duchess at the international platform and use a password that Claudia Braun can learn through Escamoso.
International relations
Dormouse has strained relations with the Khomyak Empire. Aleksei’s return to Dormouse is secret because he is a Khomyak prince brought into the country to help improve relations between the two powers.
The Duchess’s public tour also touches other international relationships. One newsreel links her to improved relations between Siika and Dormouse after an appearance involving a Siikan pavilion and an aviator.
Role in the story
Dormouse provides both the rules and obstacles Claudia must navigate. Official Dormouse records can identify Aleksei, but only if Claudia brings Inspector Felix Frohe a useful name or identity code. Dormouse nobility and royal security block the final approach to the Duchess until Claudia learns the right information or changes the social situation on the platform.
