Overview
Heather Mayfield is a singer, life vlogger, and murdered creator in A Cancellation. She has small-town roots and minor fame, and Amanda Bannington thinks of her as a pure “cherry-heart girl.”
Heather is connected more closely to Andy Field than to Amanda through the Southern and Midwestern transplant Los Angeles indie-folk scene. Amanda nonetheless recognizes Heather’s death as a creator-world event she can use for networking and public relevance.
Murder and Aftermath
Heather Mayfield’s murder occurs while she is performing with an acoustic guitar at the Barn Door Comedy Club in Thousand Oaks. A circulating phone video shows Heather singing, the gunshot, her collapse, and a faint dark blur of the gunman.
Heather’s sister confirms the death online, and a vigil is held at the venue. The vigil draws creators including Zeke Nakhla, giving Amanda an opportunity to flatter him and pursue a collaboration. Heather’s murder also becomes part of Amanda’s fear of stalkers, public violence, and the Phantom.
