Overview
Ken Lang is Amanda Bannington’s manager in A Cancellation. He left WME several years before the story and signed Amanda to his solo firm, building on a career representing social-media entertainers before the influencer label was common.
Ken grew up in Northern California with parents involved in local theater. He understands Amanda as both a creator and a performer, but he consistently measures her ambitions against the commercial reality of her audience.
Management of Amanda
Ken tells Amanda that her AmandaHere theme-song video is artistically strong but commercially wrong because Susie Sparkles brings in the views. He urges her to focus on the Hollywood live show as a comic rather than try to become a pop star.
After Amanda’s successful Wiltern performance, Ken helps push the tour plan forward. He later tells Amanda she has fall tour dates in fifteen cities, warns that she will need stamina, and informs her that a Netflix comedy series wants her for the lead on the condition that she take acting classes. He also sets up a smaller Andy and Amanda show after Andy Field asks for a shared project.
Split from Amanda
Ken tries to manage Amanda through the Maya crisis, the shrinking tour crowds, and the release of Surviving Amanda Bannington. His tone changes after Michael Senesky’s Scoop interview drops and the allegations become a criminal threat.
After Amanda records her apology video, Ken tells her that she is trending for the wrong reasons, that the tour is cancelled, and that major outlets are requesting comment. He says she could go to prison, calls her brand poison, and ends their professional relationship.
