Overview
Miraitech Research Institute is a research institution in “Lizard Man.” It is the Tokyo facility where Takumi Hashimoto is exposed to the Reptiloptrion project and later monitored as a research subject.
Facilities and Staff
Miraitech’s fifth floor houses the Reptiloptrion Chamber and related equipment. Takumi works there with senior researcher Satoshi Watanabi and lab assistant Yui Nakamura. After Takumi’s accident, Watanabi consults on his condition and leads attempts to reverse the Reptiloptrion effects.
The institute also has medical facilities or access to medical examination rooms used for subject tracking. Later in the story, Miho Sato, a doctor with a background in herpetology, replaces Dr. Kobayashi on Takumi’s case.
Role in the Story
Miraitech’s Reptiloptrion accident drives the central plot. Takumi is caught in the chamber when the Omega Field activates, and his body begins turning reptilian while his mind remains human.
For twelve weeks, the institute continues reversal work that includes invasive procedures, anti-ionizer ray sessions, and electroshock convulsions. The owners then decide the project is a failure. Funding is ended, the fifth floor is reassigned to anti-aging serum experiments, and Takumi loses his job.
Because Takumi waived settlement rights when joining the firm, Miraitech offers him only a small lifetime monthly pension in exchange for seeing a Miraitech doctor once a month. At a later checkup, front desk staff label him as a research subject and send him to the west wing.
Miho later tells Takumi that she has obtained a Miraitech grant to modify his Koto apartment with heat, humidity, stone flooring, UVB lighting, and other features suited to his altered body.
