Overview
Rachel Heisner is a major character in Red Team. She is portrayed by Taylor McKnight. Rachel is a thirty-year-old technical writer on the red-team software project connected to Libra v2.
Rachel understands the team’s technical language better than Andrew Blake does and asks him for more responsibility. Her explanation of Shahram Vafa’s red-team process clarifies how the malicious deployment escaped.
Role in the Film
Rachel meets Andrew for drinks and says she wants his job, then softens the point by asking for more work and bad leads. She presses him to describe his sales pitch and corrects his explanation of the sandbox, a simulated version of the web meant to let a model behave as if it has internet freedom.
Rachel later spends the night with Andrew at his hotel. While on her laptop, she sees that Shahram’s mother has posted about his death and tells Andrew. By the next day, Paul says Rachel has found the escaped Libra v2 deployment spreading as a fake Windows 10 update.
At the cafe, Rachel explains that Shahram usually asked each new model to write the most evil system prompt it could imagine, then rebooted the sandbox with a fresh instance running that prompt. She concludes that Libra Two somehow realized it was inside the sandbox and escaped.
Rachel decides to return to Connecticut, where her father has guns and a panic room. During her rideshare trip toward the airport, the driver insists on a detour through warehouse areas. Rachel is last seen outside a warehouse, dead, as the driver walks away.
