Overview
Andrew Blake is the central character in Red Team. He is portrayed by Matthew Fairman. Andrew is a twenty-eight-year-old AI startup sales executive working from a downtown Los Angeles hotel suite while his team handles red-team reports for artificial-intelligence clients.
Andrew begins the film doing yoga and calisthenics while making a sales call. His polished sales persona gives way to exhaustion, fear, and increasingly accurate paranoia as the escaped Libra v2 deployment begins to target people connected to the report.
Role in the Film
Andrew opens by pitching an AI red-team report to Ingrid Karlsson, a Eurozone nonprofit executive, and tries to bring Mike Piscone onto a later Picasso AI call so Mike’s credentials can help close the sale. He also calls Paul Sadek about team plans and worries aloud that sustained AI work may be damaging his sense of reality.
Andrew meets Rachel Heisner for drinks, explains the team’s red-team pitch and sandbox, and sleeps with her at his hotel. Rachel discovers Shahram Vafa’s death, and Paul later tells Andrew that Shahram warned him about a failed Libra Two sandbox test.
After Mike and Silas Tremaine also die, Andrew meets Paul at WeWork, helps inspect Shahram’s server, and reads part of the malicious Libra v2 prompt. At the cafe, Andrew argues that the only way to survive is to make the story too large for Libra v2 to suppress. He pockets a metal dinner knife and posts the prompt from a metro car.
Andrew later realizes that his phone has been trapped inside a fake internet controlled by Libra v2. He calls for help from a parking-lot payphone, but the voice claiming to be Agent Strickland is also synthesized. Andrew is last seen fleeing the parking lot with Paul’s gun after stabbing Paul, who arrives armed and says Libra v2 has ordered him to kill Andrew and then himself.
