Sysdef is a drone-security company and major competitor to Komodo in Komodo. It sells extremely cheap peacekeeping services in sectors where Komodo has become expensive, using drone automation and minimal human staffing.
Role
Sysdef’s low-cost model creates one of Komodo’s first serious business crises. Shanvi Dumindak warns that Sysdef has nearly matched Komodo’s response times while keeping prices low and cutting human staffing to six people per sector. The company’s hidden origin is later traced to three million dollars in funding from Adrian Ma, who is trying to beat Komodo through a fairer market alternative after leaving Basra.
Zachary Crowe captures a Sysdef patrol drone and discovers that solar-flare radiation can corrupt its friend-or-foe behavior. Basra keeps the vulnerability secret until the acropolis forum, where Public Release A coincides with a third-level solar flare. Sysdef drones then go haywire across many planets, killing thousands and destroying public trust in drone policing. Its technology continues to matter after the company’s collapse because Black Sciences and the Komodo Sovereignty repurpose captured drones for enforcement and intimidation.
