Overview
Helen Fenton is a scientist in “The Third Machine.” Introduced as Dr. Helen Rice, she later marries John Fenton and becomes the acting lead of the alpha Project Remus facility.
Role
Helen detects the first dimensional anomaly and warns John before Raymond Hayworth uses the third machine to transmit a return signal. After the experiment kills Raymond, Helen and John survive together in the underground facility.
Helen’s work centers on the second machine, a Project Remus system intended for consciousness preservation and transmission. When contact opens with a beta facility, Helen forms a close scientific and personal bond with Helen Hayworth, her counterpart from the other world. She helps rebuild the third machine into a bridge and instructs beta Helen in completing a second machine.
After the bridge destabilizes, Helen cuts power rather than risk another catastrophic crossing. She later reopens the connection in secret and discovers that two years have passed for Helen Hayworth. Helen Fenton’s final known situation is imprisonment in the dark lower levels of the beta facility after Helen Hayworth attacks her and takes her place in the alpha world.
