Overview
Helen Hayworth is a Project Remus scientist in “The Third Machine.” She is the beta-universe counterpart of Helen Fenton and the wife of Raymond Hayworth.
Role
Helen Hayworth contacts the alpha facility through the third machine after years of work in the beta facility. Her Raymond is terminally ill from radiation exposure, and she seeks help using the second machine to preserve his consciousness.
Working with Helen Fenton, Helen Hayworth helps rebuild the dimensional bridge and assemble a working second machine in the beta facility. The death of beta John Fenton during the first crossing leaves the beta facility with only Helen and Raymond. When the bridge destabilizes, Helen Fenton cuts the connection, leaving Helen Hayworth in a powerless, darkening facility.
Two beta years later, Helen Hayworth answers Helen Fenton’s secret attempt to reopen the bridge. She carries Raymond’s stored mind on datatape, tricks Helen Fenton close to the aperture, and strikes her with a wrench. Her final known situation is in the alpha facility, where she impersonates Helen Fenton and uses the second machine to overwrite John Fenton with Raymond’s consciousness.
