Social Proof is a nightclub in San Francisco’s Tenderloin funded by Homonoid Labs. Company employees and their associates gather there in Homonoid, including the twins Dante Amōgos and Julie Drew Amōgos. Ben Etxina encounters Lin Jiao at an early gathering, where she recruits him for the company’s missing-model investigation.
Interior and admission
The spacious former industrial bar retains Art Deco structural details. A yellow, red and white neon sign spelling SOCIAL PROOF stands high on the back wall. During Ben’s first visit, blue tarps, opened walls, ladders and carts surround thirty or forty guests in a room large enough for hundreds. Jackhammering continues beneath the music. Drinks contain ice molded into Homonoid’s supernova emblem.
The entrance is unmarked, and Ben gains admission by agreeing when the bouncer asks whether he is with Homonoid. Dante later orders guests without company badges to leave, making an exception for Lin. By the celebration after Ben returns from Macau, renovation is complete: a large neon supernova hangs above a dark dance floor with a DJ and roughly a hundred guests.
Basement
Concrete stairs descend to a basement initially blocked by caution tape. Blue modular panels and work lights are visible during construction. Tay tells Ben that soundproofing is being installed for an experimental music studio and another activity whose name he mishears.
On his later visit, a triple-layer soundproof door separates the club from a quiet stairwell. Below, Ben finds Dante and Tay engaged in consensual non-consent sexual roleplay, with Tay playing the missing AI Hammett. She invites Ben to participate, but Dante excludes him for lacking membership, safety training and paid dues.
