Overview

Walter Bride is a burned American soldier and tribunal witness in Burn Zone. Rupert Brunn calls him Wally and refers to him as the Hero of Busan.

Role

Walter visits Rupert’s house during the May 28 meeting and is treated by Rupert as a favored younger patriot. The attendees stop discussing sensitive matters while he is present.

After the Boston nuclear detonation, Walter survives with severe burns. He serves in the 232nd Army Mechanized, which is holding I-93 at the Neponset River north of Quincy when the device detonates in Boston city center. He estimates that about sixty thousand U.S. servicepersons are in the burn zone at ignition.

At the tribunal, Walter identifies Carter Clemens and describes the detonation’s human effects. His testimony forces Carter to face a visible survivor of the plan’s consequences.
