Overview
Free Oregon is an opposing force in “Locked In.” It fights the Idaho Militia during a near-future civil conflict in northern Oregon.
Organization
Free Oregon fighters are identified by helmets marked “FO.” The story associates the movement with Portland and with Kersh, a figure whom Idaho Militia soldiers describe as claiming to be the real governor. Free Oregon’s forces include anti-armor teams, FPV drone operators, and units capable of firing incendiary rockets across the Columbia River valley.
Role in the Story
Jim Duag, Garth Jensen, and Captain Eric Schriefer attack a Free Oregon anti-armor position near Memaloose Overlook. The position includes a Chinese Red Arrow launcher, a radio, and three fighters.
After the attack, one wounded Free Oregon fighter named Lewis survives long enough to graze Jensen with a pistol. Jensen then uses Lewis’s phone to call his parents before an FPV drone hits the hillside and wounds Schriefer. Duag later lets Lewis escape toward the river.
At the end of the story, Free Oregon incendiary rockets strike the valley and hillside while Idaho Militia armor moves west on Interstate 84. The resulting fire traps Duag below the trail.
