Overview

The Idaho Militia is an armed force in “Locked In.” It is part of the side advancing west through northern Oregon against Free Oregon forces.

Organization

The story presents the Idaho Militia as a military force with officers, enlisted ranks, maps, orders, armor coordination, and communication with command in Boise. Its troops include young ideological volunteers such as Garth Jensen, older soldiers such as Captain Eric Schriefer, and penal troops such as Jim Duag.

Duag serves in the Idaho Militia Penal Brigade while on loan from Texas. Penal enlisted men have low status in the chain of command, and Duag believes the militia is unlikely to evacuate them if they become casualties.

Role in the Story

The militia’s immediate goal is to clear Interstate 84 for armor, reach Hood River, pressure Beaverton, and cut off Portland’s supply. Its forces fight Free Oregon anti-armor teams, drone operators, and incendiary attacks along the Columbia River corridor.

Duag, Jensen, and Schriefer are one patrol within this larger advance. Their mission deteriorates after an FPV drone wounds Schriefer, Jensen shoots him, and another drone pursues Duag and Jensen near a tunnel west of Mosier.
