Overview
Joel DeSilva is the president of the Democratic System Unitary in Komodo. His administration tries to contain Basra Kusniqa Camden, the Mahav peace crisis, centralist corruption, and the collapse of unitary authority.
Role
DeSilva first appears in the political response to the Capital Mining leak, where Thomas Monroe briefs him on corruption that reaches centralist party officials and the Department of Commerce. He later attends the Unitary-Mahav peace summit aboard Komodo Unyielding, greeting the Hatset as Lawrence Kona’s Handshake Initiative briefly makes peace seem possible.
The later crisis turns DeSilva into Basra’s opponent. He criticizes Komodo’s data releases, taxes and regulates Komodo after Basra disappears, forms the Defense League, and tries to negotiate a settlement after Basra’s power becomes too great. Basra rejects that settlement and orders the full release of treasury evidence, contributing to the unitary market crash.
DeSilva is last seen at the presidential summer palace on Adaline with Catherine Stanton and his sick dog, Prince. Amy Kwan arrives with Silver Spear marines and orders him to relinquish the presidency. When DeSilva refuses to leave Prince, Kwan has the marines shoot him, Stanton, and the dog.
