Overview

Connie Blye is an American COFOR corporal in Burn Zone. She guards detainees at Paul Revere High School with William Laskey.

Role

Blye supervises Carter Clemens during detention, movement, and forced showering. She is rough, mocking, and openly hostile to the prisoners. Her conduct improves when Ray Bishop is present, which Carter notices before Bishop’s real role is revealed.

The story gives fragments of Blye’s self-reported background. She says the name Blye comes from an old song, that she changed her name when she ran away from home, and that COFOR let her enlist without papers. Her account then changes: she first says she killed her father with a Colt while he was watching television, then says she is only joking with Ben and that her father is alive in Fort Worth. She later frames herself as another killer like Ben, leaving the truth of the story unresolved.

Blye repeatedly abuses prisoners. She drags Kelly Pearson from the tribunal and yanks Kelly’s handcuffs hard enough to hurt her wrists. After Scott Hallman dies by suicide, Blye kicks his body. She later sexually assaults Ben Auerbach in his cell.

During execution preparation, Blye taunts Rupert Brunn and says she handles bodies. Rupert punches her, calls her a sadist, and asks whether anyone gave her a psychological evaluation. Ray Bishop removes Blye from the room and takes her rifle.
