Overview
The Brunn meeting is a wartime conspiracy meeting in Burn Zone. It takes place on May 28, 2045 at Rupert Brunn’s home above San Diego.
Participants
The principal attendees are Carter Clemens, Rupert Brunn, Scott Hallman, Kelly Pearson, and Ben Auerbach. Scott represents the Homeland Defensive Readiness Committee, Kelly brings War Economy Board food and logistics authority, and Ben brings State Department nuclear-defense contacts. Walter Bride briefly visits during lunch, after which the sensitive discussion resumes.
Discussion
The meeting begins with concerns that President Avett will accept unacceptable peace terms from the Coalition. The attendees discuss military losses, missile defenses, agricultural austerity, Coalition landing routes, and possible efforts to remove Avett from the picture.
The meeting then turns to the domestic nuclear deterrent plan, a proposal to use the Fort Drum nuclear device against a Coalition landing army inside an American city. Carter objects that the plan cannot proceed without full civilian evacuation. Rupert Brunn, Scott Hallman, Kelly Pearson, and Ben Auerbach support the plan and say they would push the button themselves.
When Carter refuses to accept the vote, the others describe the meeting as a pact of blood. Kelly Pearson, Scott Hallman, and Rupert Brunn threaten Carter’s family to force his silence. The meeting is later exposed by the accidental May 28 recording.
